I remember the utter shock hearing that a close friend of mine (someone like a sister to me) was going through a fight with this monster. I hate it with a passion for what it did to her but she is a survivor. I am grateful. Many have similar stories and they kept coming back to me as I read this journal. I kept seeing how appropriate and on-point the stories were.
From my reading, “The cancer treatment Journal” is a great source of hope and a beacon for those fighting and surviving this dreadful disease. If I could have, I would have given this as a gift to a huge influential figure in my life. Unfortunately, we lost him to cancer three months ago, but it still will make a thoughtful gift to his loved ones and others in similar journeys. Here is why:
This Journal immediately struck me as a vehicle for dealing with the five stages of grief often associated with a disease of this magnitude. Denial, anger, bargaining depression and acceptance. The stories from real life situations of those afflicted with this dreadful disease and those who are survivors presents a journey through the peaks and valleys with a realistic view of what to expect, how to cope, and how to have hope while going through the fight (cancer treatment).
The Journal also presents a sense making session of sorts for anyone going through this monumental change and it helps to bring family, friends and loved ones along in an incredibly supportive way for the ongoing journey and that yet ahead. It could also be a legacy leaving gift for those with loved ones too young to understand or as a coping mechanism for those who one may leave behind. The stories are so compelling, I fought back tears to little avail reading them.
While it offers hope it does not sugarcoat the realism of dealing with cancer. A very thoughtful support that offers help for someone going through cancer treatment and those supporting them. I see this giving them hope and insights for decisive actions, positive thinking, and realistic decisions to help their loved ones.
The pages in the book are created with a lot of thought such as how will one fight, test results, appointment notes, self-love checklist, anger, what I'm thankful for, blank pages to pour out one’s thoughts, treatment options, medication tracker, today's thoughts, attitude, symptom tracker and so much more. A very lovely gift for those who need it.
